Located on the waterfront in View Royal near Victoria, this residential renovation reimagined a traditional Tudor-style cottage into a warm and highly livable family home designed for gathering, connection, and coastal living. Andrea Rodman Interiors led the full-service interior design, thoughtfully balancing the character of the original architecture with a more open and contemporary approach to everyday living.
Set along a private bay overlooking the Juan de Fuca Strait, the home was designed to strengthen the relationship between the interiors and the surrounding coastal landscape. Natural light, warm wood tones, and restrained detailing were used throughout the renovation to create a sense of openness, softness, and continuity within the home.
A central focus of the renovation was the redesign of the main living areas to create a seamless connection between the kitchen, dining, and living spaces. The kitchen incorporates integrated storage solutions and a concealed appliance garage, supporting both functionality and a quieter visual language throughout the interiors.
French doors were introduced to increase natural light and extend the living spaces outward toward the waterfront terrace, where panoramic ocean views become an integral part of the daily experience of the home. Inspired by both traditional English architecture and contemporary Scandinavian influences, the interiors balance timeless character with a more relaxed and modern sensibility.
Designed as a welcoming retreat for family and friends, the result is a refined coastal residence that feels deeply connected to its history, setting, and the rhythms of West Coast living.
This residence holds a personal significance, as it's the place where my husband spent his childhood, and we frequently visit during trips to Victoria to reconnect with family and friends. Motivated by our family's aspiration for a modern open-concept layout, we embarked on revitalizing their home.
