Perched in the hills of West Vancouver with expansive ocean views, this custom family home was designed as a serene and highly livable retreat for a young family relocating from Hong Kong. Andrea Rodman Interiors led the full-service interior design, creating a warm and refined environment grounded in soft minimalism, Japandi influences, and thoughtful functionality.
Inspired by the clients’ appreciation for simplicity, natural materials, and understated living, the interiors balance restraint with warmth through a layered palette of natural wood tones, soft textures, and muted finishes. The design approach focused on creating a home that feels calming and deeply comfortable while supporting the rhythms of everyday family life.
Drawing from both Scandinavian and Japanese design principles, the interiors emphasize openness, natural light, and quiet materiality. Furniture selections prioritize comfort, simplicity, and craftsmanship, while integrated detailing and restrained architectural elements create a cohesive and timeless atmosphere throughout the home.
Designed with wellness and longevity in mind, materials were carefully selected for durability and low off-gassing to support a healthier indoor environment for the family and their children. The result is a contemporary West Vancouver residence that balances minimalism, warmth, and practicality within a calm and enduring architectural framework.
This project reflects the studio’s approach to creating highly considered residential interiors that feel both refined and deeply personal to the people who live within them.

Our clients, true minimalists, sought a space that harmonized serene and calming design elements with pragmatic functionality—a haven mirroring their penchant for beauty and practicality. They longed for a palette of natural tones, invoking tranquility for unwinding and nurturing.
